5 signs that your cleaner is doing a good job

Having a good cleaner who leaves you with a clean and clear business is not only good for your colleagues’, your customers’ and your own health, but also for increasing workplace morale and productivity along with lowering rates of absenteeism.

It is therefore important for you to know if your current cleaner is doing a good job.

So, we have pulled together 5 signs that will help you to identify if your cleaner is up to scratch.

1. They stick to a schedule

Does your cleaner arrive on time, complete the work that is required of them within the agreed time period and then leave?

Or do they turn up late, quickly do the bare minimum and then leave?

Many cleaners work very early in the morning or late at night, so you may not be able to track if they are keeping to their schedule.

If this is the case, don’t worry, as we have more ways for you to check if your cleaner is doing a good job.

2. Your cleaning cupboard is clean and tidy

Having a clean and clear working environment not only improves your productivity but also reflects the quality and standard of your work.

Our TGC Dream Team take great pride in their cleaning cupboards, as they represent not only the level of service they provide to their customers but also our values as a TGC Family.

Therefore, a good place to start when checking if your cleaner is doing a good job is to check the cleanliness of your cleaning cupboard.

3. They are well equipped for the job

Having the right equipment and products is essential in completing any job effectively, so while you are looking in your cleaning cupboard have a look around to see if they have a variety of supplies.

Many cleaners will bring fresh products and equipment with them on the day, so be sure to observe them at work if you can to see if they are using the equipment and products that they should be.

Of course, you are not cleaning experts, but some warning signs are cleaners using one or two cloths to cover every area (from the toilet to your desk!) and using one all-purpose spray when they agreed to use different products for different surfaces.

4. Your workplace is clean

It sounds simple but sometimes surfaces can look cleaner than they actually are.

So, try taking a microfiber cloth or paper towel and wiping it across different surfaces to see how clean they are.

Look at the corner of your carpets and floors to see if your cleaner has taken the time to clean them properly.

Have they vacuumed under tables and chairs or just around them?

Is the inside of your microwave, fridge or dishwasher clean?

If the answer to all of the above is positive then great.

If not then it may be worth speaking with your cleaning company to find out what has happened (just make sure the areas you are enquiring about are included in your cleaning arrangement).

5. Safety comes first

Does your cleaner leave wet floor signs after cleaning your floors and are they careful when using equipment with wires to ensure they are not causing any hazards?

We treat all of our customers and their colleagues like they are family, which means their safety is our top priority.

If your cleaner is not committed to the safety of you and your colleagues, their commitment to cleaning could also be questioned.

Even if their standards are high, if they are not taking the safety of you and your colleagues seriously, then you should question if they are the right fit for your business.

What to do next

If you find any areas of your cleaning that you are not happy with then your next step should be to contact your cleaning company.

Having an open and honest conversation can work wonders, as it can clear up issues that either side were not aware off.

It can also help you to identify if you require cleaning services that you did not realise you required.

Get a free cleaning review

If you feel like you are not the best person to identify if your cleaner is doing a good job then we can help.

We can offer you a free review of your current cleaning contract to ensure that you are only paying for the services you need, when you need them.

Cleaning business becomes a family affair

Read all about how we have taken full ownership into the family with support from Barclays Bank in our article on the Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce website,  or below today.

Cleaning business becomes a family affair

Aberdeen based commercial cleaning business Tidy Green Clean has taken ownership into the family, after completing a management buy-out with backing from Barclays.

The organisation is the first Scottish SME to benefit from Barclays’ recently launched £100k unsecured lending limit, which has enabled brothers in law Andrew Alleway and David Moncur to take full ownership of the business.

After celebrating a 100% increase in turnover in the last financial year, Tidy Green Clean hopes to expand the business through additional franchise opportunities in the Central Belt, boosting the headcount which currently sits at 110.

Long term goals for the business also include developing an external training academy as well as campaigning for minimum standards across the industry.

Having worked in facilities management for several years, the duo took over the Scottish branch of Ecocleen in 2017, launching under the new brand Tidy Green Clean and now provide environmentally friendly products and systems for around 120 customers across Scotland. Headquartered in Aberdeen, the business also operates in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Peterhead across hospitality, retail, medical and oil and gas sectors.

Managing director, Andrew Alleway said: “Taking ownership of the business has been our goal for some time and thanks to the funding and support from Barclays, this has now become a reality. The team have been incredibly supportive and I’ve been impressed with the personalised service offered throughout the lending process.

“It’s an exciting time for Tidy Green Clean as we put plans in place for future development and expansion and we hope to continue our run of success in 2019 and beyond.”

Stuart Brown, head of SME Scotland, Barclays, said: “At Barclays we’re passionate about helping Scotland’s businesses owners at every stage of their journey, and it’s great to see Tidy Green Clean moving into the next chapter, with support from business manager, Rebecca Ainsley.

“Earlier this year we doubled our unsecured lending limit to £100,000 to help SMEs in Scotland get faster access to finance and help them make the most of all opportunities for growth.  We believe unsecured lending can really transform hard-working companies like this, allowing them to scale up and serve more people by removing some of the traditional barriers to finance.”

How to clean your desk in 4 easy steps

Keeping your desk clean is not only good for your health and happiness but also your productivity too.

But, let’s face it, with all the meetings and deadlines we need to meet it can be difficult to stay on top of it.

This is why we have pulled together 4 super easy tips that will keep your desk tidy, green and clean.

Recycle your rubbish

From meeting notes and reports to coffee cups, water bottles and snack packs, clutter can quickly build up around your desk.

Start by gathering everything that you don’t need (do you really need those notes from 12 months ago?) and then take it to your office recycling bins and separate it out.

Dust, dust, dust

Grab a microfibre cloth and give everything a dust from top to toe (yes, even under the computer monitor).

This will not only clear the air you breath but also prepare your surface for the next step.

Give it a tidy, green, clean

Take another microfibre cloth, along with an eco friendly cleaner (or make your own), and scrub down all surfaces, including your monitor, keyboard and mouse (as these are germ hotspots).

A clean sweep

Finish off your clean by giving the floor under and around your desk a quick sweep or hover.

This will remove all the dust and debris that has gathered on the floor since your last clean.

And relax!

Now your desk is tidy and clean you can take a few minutes to relax before cracking on with the day ahead within a happy and healthy working environment.

Why is eco friendly cleaning the best?

Keeping your workplace clean is an essential part of any business and comes with a number of benefits, from keeping your workplace clean (obviously) to improving workforce morale and productivity.

But, by using an eco friendly cleaning service, you can take things to the next level, experiencing many more benefits for your business in the process.

So, here are a few reasons why eco friendly cleaning is the best.

Keeps your workforce safe

Have you ever looked at the back of a bottle, can or tub of domestic cleaner at home only to find labels that read ‘Warning’, ‘Toxic’ or ‘Flammable’?

Well, commercial cleaners are even stronger and more dangerous than those found in the home which, if spilled, can pose a danger to you and your workforce.

From chemical burns to skin and eye irritation, there can be many nasty side effects of coming into contact with traditional cleaners.

You do not have this problem with eco friendly cleaning agents however, as they have to meet strict guidelines in order to make them safe to use in the workplace, with many claiming that they are even safe enough to drink (although we would not recommend it).

Keeps your workforce healthy

Along with keeping your workforce safe, eco friendly cleaning also helps to keep your workforce healthy.

A clean office creates a healthy office, as there is less chance of germs and disease spreading among colleagues.

Additionally, using eco friendly cleaning agents means chemicals are not being absorbed into your skin or lungs, reducing symptoms like sore heads and coughing.

Improves air quality

Believe it or not but many workplaces (especially those with poor air circulation) have higher pollution rates inside than outside of their building.

This is caused by the chemical odours found in traditional cleaning agents remaining in the air for too long.

By using eco friendly cleaning agents, these nasty chemicals are replaced with natural essential oils, keeping your business smelling fresh and your air even fresher.

Saves you time and money

The safety of our TGC Dream Team is our number one priority and we are sure you feel the same way about your workforce.

However, along with keeping your workforce safe and healthy, eco friendly cleaning also saves you time and money.

This is because a healthier workforce creates a lower level of absenteeism, increasing your return on investment and allowing you and your team to focus on the things that matter the most to your business.

Helps the environment

Ultimately, using eco friendly cleaning is better for the environment as less chemicals and pollution are released into the air and less unrecyclable waste is produced.

If we all take little steps towards reducing the impact we have on the environment then we can help protect it for generations to come.
