Why we are proud to be a Living Wage employer (and why you should be too)

As a Living Wage employer, 2017 was a big year for Tidy Green Clean.

We launched, expanded and brought new franchisees into our TGC family, all earning the Living Wage or above.

This is because, along with being an eco friendly commercial cleaning company, we also believe in being socially responsible.

This is why we are proud to be a Living Wage employer.

Benefits of being a Living Wage employer

Research conducted on employers who have introduced the Living Wage shows a 25% fall in days of absence, 80% of employers see an increase in the quality of work of their staff and 66% reported improved recruitment and retention outcomes.

These are all benefits that we have experienced. But these aren’t the only reasons that Tidy Green Clean believe in being a Living Wage employer.

Independently conducted research with employees who work for a Living Wage employer shows that 75% of employees reported increases in work quality and that 50% felt that the Living Wage had made them more likely to adopt changes in working practices more quickly.

As we evolve and keep up-to-date with the latest green cleaning technologies, our employees are keen to adapt.

But perhaps more importantly, paying a Living Wage can afford our employees more time to spend with their friends and loved ones, and time to dedicate to their local community.

We see that as socially responsible and we are proud to play our part in benefiting society.

What do our TGC Dream Team think?

“TGC is a great company to work for. I have worked there for a year and I cannot imagine working anywhere else.”

“Not only do I enjoy my job but with two young children at home, receiving the Living Wage makes things easier for me and my family, especially at this time of year.”

“I am proud to work for a company who has its colleagues, customers and the world around them at the forefront of their thinking.”

As you can see from the quotes above our team not only enjoy working for us but appreciate the benefits we offer to them and the feeling is mutual.

Proud to have such a wonderful team

We are proud to have such a wonderful team as without them there would be no Tidy Green Clean.

Our employees should feel cared for, valued and feel confidence and security in having us as an employer.

We believe it is the right thing to do.

As a family owned business we believe our team are our family too.

Everyone, we believe, should have a positive work/life balance and we urge every business to join us.

The opportunity to make 2018 the start of something special is there for you too with Tidy Green Clean.

Create some fireworks of your own and make it a November to remember. Become your own boss with a Tidy Green Clean franchise

Ever thought of being your own boss?

It is fair to say that everyone has, at some time, held aspirations to be their own boss. To make the decisions and reap the rewards. But we all know that it is not as simple as just wanting it. There are risks involved and the thoughts of them often makes us put our dream to one side and stay put.

But what if we told you there was a way to be your own boss but have a guaranteed income with support and guidance from experts? Sounds good right?

That’s where a franchise comes in. Here are just some of the benefits of franchise:

Support and training

With a franchise you are never alone. You have a network of support and fellow franchisees. All working towards success. Franchisees reap the benefits of specialist expertise and training. It is all designed to equip you with everything you need for success. And this support is ongoing.

Brand strength and your own territory

Right from the start you are working with a recognisable brand, attractive to customers at a local, regional and national level. This gives you a head start on your competition. You are also in most cases the only franchisee operating in your chosen geographical area. That places you best to reap the rewards of success in your own backyard.

These are just a couple of examples to give you a flavour of how you can live the dream of being your own boss. You can read more about the benefits of franchises in our blog post: 9 Great reasons to think franchise, franchise, franchise!

Where now?

So you’ve decided that you do want to be your own boss and you want to go down the franchise route. Great!

But what industry? Where will you get the best bang for your buck?

It won’t surprise you to hear us say that you should look no further than a franchise in the commercial cleaning sector.

A recent study by the University of Warwick has estimated the UK contract cleaning industry at £5.6 billion. Imagine it like a giant pie that is growing all the time. And you can have a slice of it.

As a matter of fact, the commercial cleaning industry is considered one of the most robust industries in times of economic downturn as, let’s face it, offices and commercial facilities always need to be cleaned to the highest standard. That is exactly what we at TGC do.

But where we differ from other cleaning companies is in our socially responsible, eco-friendly credentials.

We are an accredited Living Wage employer meaning our staff always feel valued. We like to call them our TGC Dream Team. We are like a family. And that helps us grow and retain the highest quality staff who do the highest quality job.

And speaking of family, Tidy Green Clean are a family business. That means anyone coming in to a new franchise with TGC can rely on long-term stability, trust, loyalty and the shared values that you only find in a family run business.

On the eco-friendly side, we pride ourselves on our environmentally friendly, green credentials. We make sure we look after our client’s needs in a way that doesn’t hurt the environment whilst giving them a working one they can be proud of.

We promote and use products that are accredited with the highest standard, green credentials. In all our services we strive to be the greenest and the best.

So you’ve read about franchises and why a cleaning franchise could be right for you. So, what next? How do you light the fuse on your fireworks and send in them up into the wide blue yonder?

North-east commercial cleaning firm launches franchise model – Scottish Business News Network

Find out why Grant Peterkin, our first franchisee, decided to put his future in his own hands by becoming a commercial cleaning franchise owner plus so much more in our Scottish Business News Network feature below.

North-east commercial cleaning firm launches franchise model

An Aberdeen headquartered commercial cleaning and facilities management firm has launched a franchise model just months after finalising a management buyout.

Tidy Green Clean (TGC), based in the city’s Pitstruan Terrace, has secured a deal with its first franchisee with a £65k investment to manage the Aberdeen South sector for the business, which reaches as far south as Montrose, Angus.

TGC owners Andrew Alleway and David Moncur bought the existing business from Ecoclean in July this year and they currently boast 80 clients across the area and employ a team of 60 office and cleaning staff.

The firm provides environmentally friendly commercial cleaning and facilities management support to a range of industries, including energy, healthcare, hospitality and professional services.

With a current turnover in excess of £1m, the owners have launched a franchise model to boost turnover to more than £10m in the next six years.

Grant Peterkin, from Stonehaven, who previously held a managerial role for nine years, has secured the first franchise deal and joins TGC as master franchisee for the Aberdeen south sector, with 12 clients and seven staff set to move over from the main business.

The firm has a further two franchise opportunities available for Aberdeen central and north and an additional nine deals across Scotland.

Mr Alleway, who has franchising experience from his previous business in New Zealand, said: “When we completed the management buyout earlier this year we had a clear vision at that stage that we wanted to launch the franchise model into the business by the end of this year.  Grant’s experience in operations and customer care from his previous role ensures he has the right skills to take on the first franchise and work to grow that business for his own benefit in the future.”

Taking on the franchise, Grant has secured exclusive rights to operate in the Aberdeen south territory and increase the client base whilst receiving administration, licensing and marketing support from the TGC head office.

He said: “The environmental approach by TGC was a key factor in peaking my interest to invest in building my own business and helping other franchisees in the future.  The investment gives me the focus and the drive to create a substantial business in my territory and create a better life for me and my family.”

The next six months will see TGC secure additional franchisees with a focus on Aberdeen and Dundee initially before targeting further south.  As the franchise model grows, more jobs will be created across the North-east and further afield.

Tidy Green Clean Raises Bar on Eco Best Practices

Eco-friendly corporate cleaning specialist launches ambitious franchise model.

When Andrew Alleway and his business partner, David Moncur, acquired the Scottish arm of the UK-wide commercial cleaning specialist Ecocleen, the motive behind the managed buyout was clear: they wanted to put a fresh spin on corporate cleaning services with a family-owned, Aberdeen-based operation that reflected their personal values and hands-on management style.

Just six months after re-launching the company as Tidy Green Clean, the brothers-in-law have launched a franchise model they aim to expand across Scotland. With top management located in Dundee and Aberdeen, the firm provides environmentally responsible commercial cleaning and facilities management to a range of industries. Services encompass everything from windows and carpets to hygiene and rapid response in emergency situations.

“This is a really exciting time for Tidy Green Clean, as we take a successful national business into full Scottish ownership,” said company co-founder and managing director Andrew, a New Zealand native and Ecocleen’s former director for Scotland. “We offer all the capabilities of a national company plus the benefit of local management and a localised support structure.”

In Andrew’s estimation, the company’s proven recipe for success starts with its unique business model, combining motivated directors, fully trained staff, state-of-the-art equipment, professional eco-friendly cleaning products and regular quality management audits.

“It’s trendy these days to call yourself ‘eco-friendly’, but we’re the real deal. We take great pride in achieving ISO certification for quality standards, environmental and health and safety systems, with pending certification for risk and energy management.”

What truly sets Tidy Green Clean apart, however, is its people, whom Andrew considers the best in the industry.

“Our directors and managers all have a stake in the business, which gives them added incentive to provide the top-notch customer care and quality service that our clients demand. We also encourage our staff to take advantage of our Academy, an online portal with training videos and opportunities to earn bonuses. All our staff receive comprehensive training with regular refresher courses, too. It’s a costly investment but one that results in a better retention rate for our cleaners, which ultimately leads to better service, increased consistency, and happier staff and clients.”

Staff use only the most advanced cleaning tools and equipment, such as environmentally friendly cleaning agents without harmful chemicals. These appeal greatly to many conscientious and forward-thinking organisations, including those that care for animals, children and adults with mental and learning disabilities as, if accidentally consumed, they will do no harm.

Cleaners also use low-wattage vacuum cleaners, microfibre cloths that require no soap or chemicals, and microfibre flat mops that reduce cleaning agent use and disposal, decrease cleaning times, improve productivity and reduce repetitive motion injuries.

Andrew’s genuine passion for people, team-building and creating a positive and healthy work environment is seen in other aspects of his thriving enterprise, such as the commitment to pay a living wage.

“We pay our team well and guarantee each cleaner 30 hours’ work per week, which is very rare in this industry. Most companies try to avoid full-time employees because it’s much cheaper to do so. But treating people with respect not only has a huge impact on recruitment and retention, it’s just the right thing to do.”

Tidy Green Clean currently boasts 80 clients across the area, and employs 60 office and cleaning staff. Andrew and David have ambitious plans for expansion across the country and recently secured a deal with their first franchisee, Grant Peterkin from Stonehaven, who joins the company as master franchisee for the Aberdeen South sector. There are two further franchise opportunities available – Aberdeen Central and North, and an additional nine deals across Scotland.

In addition to the company’s commercial cleaning division, its security and facilities management services are also expected to contribute towards business growth. This diversification, together with the company’s growing client base, should sustain the exciting gains already experienced.

Yet no matter how far and wide the company expands, Andrew and David are determined to remain as hands-on as possible.

“We’re on-site on a frequent basis, helping ensure that our lofty standards are being delivered. This dedication to personalised service and strict quality control at all levels of the operation can be seen in everything we do, and that’s something that larger national and international companies cannot replicate. Especially not when combined with the depth of expertise that we can offer, and the fact that we are a family-owned business based right here in Aberdeen.”
